Backyard rinks... I was out skating on mine for the first time today
by outbutnotdown inwhat a great thing to do.
this is my first one and i have to admit it was a lot of work getting it ready, but thanks to unseasonably freezing temps in southern ontario, the ice is great.
the kids are just loving it.

I bounced back and forth between the States and Canada growing up. From 67 to 72 we lived up there in Milgrove, Ontario just up the mountain from Hamilton. My Uncle built a back yard rink, he had 5 kids plus me. I loved skating. It was most fun in the evening with the back light on over the rink being served fresh hot chocolate standing around a barrel fire getting warm.
I remember that it was so much nicer then having to walk the mile or so thru a farmers field to the woods so we could skate on the swamp. The swamp was where water would sit about 6 inches or a foot deep around the floor of the woods and freeze, this made miles and miles of skating area. All the neighbourhood kids would go and your only limitation would be how much snow you wanted to shovel off. The boys would play hockey and the girls would figure skate. We would stay out there for hours and hours and only come home when we were soakin wet and fingers, toes and nose were frozen numb. Those were some of the best years of my life. Thanks for the memory.

Thinking about moving to Cincinnati...
by DanTheMan inmy employers' intranet website recently posted for a position located in cincinnati (which is about a 2 hour drive from columbus, where i live).. the requirements/skills listed on the posting seemed right up my alley, so i submitted my app online.
today i get an email from the hr lady asking me when i can interview.. i'm so nervous about this!
i've never lived far from home, and i'm very close with my family, to be honest they're all i've got, i don't have friends or a social circle to speak of.

I might be boring but you can always hang out with me! You know I'm alittle partial to the area.

You Have One Shot.
by Englishman inyou're out somewhere, shopping maybe or in a restaurant or bus queue, whatever.. you've not been to the meetings for a couple of years, you are now an inactive person.
you might even have da'd yourself or got df'd.. you suddenly realise you are facing or stood next to someone that you know is a jw.
you also know that they know that you were once a jw too.. the person greets you and starts up a conversation with you.

My reply would be much like Sirona & Flowerpetals.
"OOOh Myyy, I could never in good conscience return..........knowing what I know. But thanks for asking".
Then walk away. They will always be wondering and may even start looking for that really bad something.

Had a good scriptural laugh
by seattleniceguy inwe all need a little help sometimes when it comes to getting by, and i've opened up my house a few times to people in need of a place to stay, for periods ranging from a day or two to a couple weeks.
last year, i put up one such individual, named vincent.
vincent showed up at the kh one evening in march, looking a little rough, cleary not a witness, but able to quote the new world translation with an incredible accuracy.

Step One
by Peppermint injust registered today after many months of being a silent spectator, hope to tell you a bit about myself in the days/weeks to come, but not just yet.
one step at a time as they say.
i have been helped so much by what i have read here, at first i expected to find bitter and twisted rantings, not so, you all seem very normal.

Welcome to the board Peppermint.
Many long journeys are started with just one little step. Waiting to hear the rest of the story when you're ready.
Most of the people on here are pretty normal and not angry, ranting, crazy people. We do have our times though. Most are here for the company and support.
